Danna Rhyne turned a 10th-place starting spot into a Daytona victory on Friday night, taking the checkered flag in the AAES O'Reilly's Series Round 2 with 13 laps led across a chaotic 103-lap race at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. The race was anything but straightforward, with 9 cautions bunching the field for 28 laps and 25 lead changes shuffling the running order throughout the evening. Rhyne, wheeling the #27, emerged from that turbulence as the strongest car at the front when it mattered most, holding off #38 Jack Kelly at the finish. Not a single driver crossed the line with a clean sheet — all 17 cars collected incidents — and Rhyne herself racked up 19 on the way to victory lane.
Jack Kelly delivered the night's most dramatic charge, hauling the #38 from 16th on the grid all the way to second, a swing of 14 positions to earn Hard Charger honors. Kelly also contributed 9 laps led during his run through the pack, making his presence felt at the front as well as through the field. Ted Gambill in the #22 rounded out the podium, advancing three spots from his P6 starting position and leading 4 laps of his own. Mark Brister in the #21 was arguably one of the night's fastest cars, pacing the field for a race-high 17 laps from a 13th-place start, but had to settle for fifth at the finish.
Pole-sitter Steven Moraes in the #43 led 10 laps early from the front row but fell victim to the chaotic Daytona attrition, ultimately classified seventh, six positions worse than where he started. #95 Justin Miller had an even tougher night, dropping 15 spots from second on the grid to finish last in the 17-car field despite collecting only 4 incidents — the cleanest race among the top finishers statistically. #12 Tyler Starcher mirrored Kelly's charge with a 13-position gain from dead last on the grid to fourth, an impressive haul that has immediate implications for the points table.
With two rounds complete, Rhyne's win vaults her to the top of the standings with 40 points, four clear of Kelly at 36 and six ahead of Gambill at 34. Starcher sits fourth at 33 points alongside Brister, meaning five drivers are separated by just 7 points heading into Round 3. The AAES O'Reilly's Series title fight is wide open, and if Daytona proved anything, positions in this league can be gained or lost in a hurry.
