Maxwell Waite turned in a commanding Saturday afternoon at Oulton Park, taking the Round 4 victory in the AAES Whelen Mazda MX5 Cup to extend his series lead. Starting from pole, the #54 entry led 11 of 19 laps around the demanding Cheshire circuit, though the five lead changes across the field confirmed this was no straightforward afternoon. Waite picked up his second win of the season — and second all-time in this series — banking 200 points in the process despite carrying six incidents on his card by the checkered flag.

The fight for the runner-up spot was arguably the most entertaining battle of the afternoon, with #36 Ryder Poe pushing Waite hard from the second starting position. Poe's seven laps led demonstrated he had genuine pace to trouble the race leader, and 16 incidents on his scorecard tell the story of a driver who was fully committed to a result that never quite came. Poe's P2 finish earns him 175 points and represents his first podium finish in this series. Behind him, #90 Zack Yordy rounded out the podium from third on the grid, banking 150 points in what was similarly his first series podium, though he never threatened the top two after the opening exchanges.

Nathan Lietzan in the #410 earned the hard charger honors after storming from the 11th and final starting position to a seventh-place finish — a gain of four spots through 19 laps of traffic, caution periods, and contact. That charge came at a cost, with 19 incidents making Lietzan the most penalized driver in the field, but the 80 points collected will matter as the standings develop. #157 Robert Davis and #440 Ross Boudreau were the other notable movers, advancing one and two positions respectively to finish fourth and fifth, with Davis even leading a lap during the race.

Waite's second win of the season has opened a significant gap at the top of the standings. Sitting on 680 points, the #54 now holds a 155-point advantage over Poe in second, with Yordy a further 55 back in third at 470. Robert Davis sits fifth on 360 points, more than 300 adrift of the leader, making the fight at the front a three-horse contest heading into Round 5. With the points spread between second and fifth totalling just 165, every position at the next round will carry genuine weight for everyone outside Waite's immediate orbit.
