P1 Finish
Round 2 of the AAES Truck Series at EchoPark Speedway produced one of the most chaotic afternoons of league racing this season, with 12 cautions consuming 39 of 127 laps and 24 lead changes keeping the field shuffling throughout. When the dust settled, it was #12 Tyler Starcher taking the victory from his P2 starting spot, edging #26 Raymond Bell and #27 Danna Rhyne to the line for his first win of the season and first in the series. Starcher led 46 of the 127 laps to earn the 40-point haul, while Bell's 19 laps led and runner-up finish netted him 35 points, and Rhyne's 9 laps out front translated into a 34-point third-place result after starting seventh.
The race was anything but straightforward at the front. Pole-sitter #00 George Jewell led the opening laps but ultimately fell to 12th by the finish, a brutal 11-position swing from where he started. #86 Rick Dewees, who qualified third, also slid backwards to seventh despite leading 8 laps. #46 Graham Van Ewyk showed genuine speed with 21 laps led — second only to Starcher on the day — but faded to 19th at the checkered flag, making his laps at the point among the most unfortunate of the afternoon. #9 Jared Gottsch suffered an even steeper fall, dropping 14 positions from his P6 start to finish 20th despite leading 4 laps, accumulating 24 incidents along the way.
The hard charger award belonged to #76 Kevin Herring, who drove from 23rd on the grid to sixth at the finish, a gain of 17 positions across 127 laps. Herring kept his incident count to just six, a remarkable figure given the carnage surrounding him — eight drivers racked up 16 or more incidents on the day. Matching Herring's charge from the back was #38 Jack Kelly, who climbed 15 spots from P19 to P4 and accumulated 15 incidents en route to a 33-point afternoon. Only two drivers in the 25-car field completed the race without a single incident: #64 Dan Kopinski and #60 Anthony Dobbins, though neither improved on their starting positions.
With 13 races remaining, Starcher's victory vaults him to the top of the standings with 109 points, building a 20-point cushion over #93 Brian Knotts II, who recovered from a 17th-place starting spot to ninth and now sits second with 89 points. Rhyne's podium keeps her in the fight at 74 points in third, while #097 Anthony Raso and Bell are locked together at 70 points apiece in fourth and fifth. The gap from Starcher to Bell in fifth is already 39 points, and with a 25-car field producing the kind of volatility Atlanta delivered on Monday, every position battle in the weeks ahead figures to carry serious consequence.
