P1 Finish
Round 2 of the OGRL Old Guy Racing League Formula Vee season at Summit Point Raceway belonged to #12 Andrew McMurray, who scored his first win in series competition after starting from the second position. With Lead Changes registering at zero and McMurray leading all 17 laps, the victory was as dominant as the results sheet suggests — though it came at a cost of five incidents across a race that saw no cautions and no clean drivers finish the 12-car field. Rick Mogstad brought the #2 home in second, advancing four spots from his P4 starting position, while #074 Ric Wishon rounded out the podium in third, also gaining two spots from his P5 grid slot. Neither Mogstad nor Wishon had previously visited victory lane in this series, making all three podium finishers new names in the OGRL Formula Vee record books.
The hard charger award went to #929 Uwe Hale, who gained four positions across the 17-lap race to finish fourth from his eighth starting spot. Hale's charge came at a price — nine incidents logged along the way — but the result delivered 23 points and, crucially, moved him into a strong position in the standings. Equally notable was the performance of #458 Matt Ramona, who climbed three spots from P9 to P6 while posting just four incidents, the cleanest race among all finishers. At the other end of the ledger, #302 Camron Frederick had a race to forget, sliding five positions from third on the grid to eighth at the flag, accumulating nine incidents in the process.
Perhaps the starkest storyline of the afternoon was the collapse of polesitter #14 David Tamira, who fell from the front row all the way to last place — a swing of 11 positions — and collected six incidents along the way. It was a devastating reversal for a driver who had earned the pole and the early spotlight at Summit Point. Meanwhile, #11 Pernell Hanelt held his P7 grid spot through to the flag but drew 22 incidents, the second-highest total of any driver in the field, a turbulent afternoon that the results line barely captures.
In the championship picture, McMurray's victory vaulted him to second in the standings on 51 points, just one point behind leader Camron Frederick's 52 — and Frederick's difficult race means the gap at the top is razor-thin entering the next round. Uwe Hale and Rick Mogstad are tied on 48 points in third and fourth respectively, with Ric Wishon a further three back on 45. Five drivers are separated by only seven points, and with McMurray now in striking distance after his Round 2 triumph, the OGRL Formula Vee title fight is shaping up to be one of the tightest in the league's calendar.
