Round 7 of the GT3 Coffee Cup series at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park belonged entirely to #1 Ryan Merriam, who converted his pole position into a dominant 44-lap performance, leading all 44 laps in a race that saw zero cautions and zero lead changes. It was Merriam's fourth win of the season and his 21st all-time in the series, a commanding victory that underscored just how dangerous he remains every time he takes the wheel, even if the championship standings don't yet reflect his name at the top.
Behind Merriam, the battle for the podium told a different story. #4 David Ven Roy launched from fourth on the grid and delivered a clean, controlled run — posting just 2 incidents — to bring home P2 and his best result of the round. #10 Shajee Zuhair matched that grid-forward progress, advancing from fifth to third to secure his second podium of the season. Meanwhile, #17 Alan Purser, who had the luxury of starting second, lost two spots across 44 laps and crossed the line fourth, while #306 Damijan Horvatin dropped three positions from third on the grid to finish sixth. The 13 incidents racked up by Horvatin told the story of a difficult afternoon at CTMP.
The hard charger honors went to #20 Alex Claudio, who stormed from 19th on the grid all the way to 10th at the flag — a nine-position swing that was the most dramatic charge of the day. Claudio and Sean Reilly, who advanced five spots from 14th to 9th, were the two standout movers in a 23-car field that generated a combined total of 14 incidents for both drivers in the top-ten. John Gardner Sr. also deserves mention, climbing six spots from 22nd to 16th. On the wrong end of the positional ledger, #89 Bradley Tidwell suffered the sharpest decline of the race, dropping 13 spots from sixth on the grid to 19th at the flag — a result that will sting given his position in the standings.
That brings us to the title picture, and it remains tight and increasingly urgent. Bradley Tidwell holds the points lead at 396, but Sunday's race was a damaging one — his 13-spot slide came on the same afternoon that David Ven Roy climbed to second in the standings with 348 points, just three ahead of Kiko Lacalle at 345. Quinten Price sits fourth at 333 points after his own forgettable run to 21st, and Alex Claudio's hard-charging P10 moved him to fifth at 321 points. With Tidwell's cushion eroding and four drivers within 75 points of the lead, the GT3 Coffee Cup title fight is shaping up to be decided in the closing rounds of the season.
