At Virginia International Raceway on Monday night, #074 Ric Wishon delivered a commanding performance in Round 3 of the OGRL Formula Vee Series, taking the victory from second on the grid across 11 laps in front of a ten-car field. Wishon led all 11 laps of the caution-free race, converting his front-row starting spot into a clean run to the checkered flag. Behind him, #74 Clark Wolfe advanced two positions from fourth on the grid to claim the runner-up spot, while #11 Pernell Hanelt matched that two-position gain, moving from fifth to third in his first podium result of the evening. Both Wolfe and Hanelt are making their marks early in the season, as neither driver carried prior wins into this event.
The hard charger award belonged without question to #458 Matt Ramona, who carved six positions through the 11-lap race, climbing from tenth on the grid all the way to fourth at the finish. Ramona did so while keeping his incident count to just three — the third-cleanest sheet in the field — a sharp contrast to the contact-heavy running that plagued much of the grid. That combination of pace and discipline earned Ramona a fourth-place result and 23 championship points on the night.
At the front of the grid, pole-sitter #14 David Tamira had a night to forget. Starting from the inside of row one, Tamira was shuffled back and ultimately finished eleventh — dead last — dropping ten positions from where he began. It was the starkest reversal of fortunes on the grid, and the four-incident tally doesn't fully explain the collapse in track position. #7 Rick Mogstad similarly struggled, falling four spots from third on the grid to seventh, while #232 Robert Sackett's 20-incident race left him ninth at the flag after starting sixth.
The result reshuffles a tight championship picture heading deeper into the Formula Vee season. Wishon's victory vaults him to 33 points, level with standings leader Camron Frederick, who does not appear in the race results for Round 3. Andrew McMurray sits just one point back at 32, making this a genuine three-way battle at the top with the margin between first and third standing at a single point. Tamira's disastrous evening drops him to fourth at 27 points, four behind the co-leaders, while Clark Wolfe's podium finish brings him level with Tamira at fifth. With the standings this compressed, every lap and every incident will carry amplified consequences in the rounds ahead.
