Brian Scott brought the #85 home first at Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans on Thursday night to claim his first win of the season and his first in the FMA World Endurance Championship, but the result was far from straightforward across 26 green-flag laps. Scott started from pole and led only 2 of those 26 laps, with the #604 of Anthony Sorrentino controlling the race's tempo — Sorrentino spent 18 laps out front, more than any other driver in the field. Four lead changes over the course of the race kept the order in constant flux, and when the checkered flag fell it was Scott who had the position that mattered most, with David Bush III's #32 crossing second after climbing from his third-place starting spot to salvage a podium.
Sorrentino was the story of the race before the finish, but the #604 ultimately fell to third despite leading the lion's share of the 26 laps. Bush III added 6 laps of his own at the front to give the #32 a legitimate case for victory, and his move from P3 to P2 over the course of the race kept the pressure on Scott throughout. Paxton Frith in the #36 held his fourth-place starting position all the way to the flag, while Cody Deak's #16 was one of the stronger movers in the field, advancing three spots from eighth on the grid to fifth at the finish.
The hard charger award went to Philippe Vieira Dos Santos in the #07, who gained six positions from his 15th-place start to cross the line ninth. That same margin of six spots forward was matched by Mark Osier's #117, who went from 20th to 14th, though it was Dos Santos who claimed the official hard charger honors. At the other end of the movement chart, Dustin Wells in the #115 had a difficult afternoon, falling 14 positions from fifth on the grid to 19th, while Kurtis Kieneker's #111 dropped 13 spots from seventh to 20th. Rahn Matthews in the #82 was the lone driver to complete the race without a single incident from the back of the grid.
In the standings, Sorrentino's third-place finish still extends his points lead, but the gap at the top is substantial — the #604 sits on 4215 points while second-place Michael O'Dell holds 3162, a deficit of more than 1,000 points with the series pressing into the second half of its schedule. O'Dell's P6 at Le Mans was enough to keep him in second, but Maycon Ghizoni in third and Paxton Frith in fourth — separated by just 63 points — are in a tight battle for the lower steps of the standings podium. Gustavo Ferraro's gain from P11 to P7 on the day keeps the #777 alive in fifth at 2535 points.
