Alex Forrest wheeled the #9 machine to victory lane at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night, taking the win in Round 1 of the HP Racing Cup Series after leading 14 of 60 laps in a race that saw 11 lead changes and six caution periods consume 18 laps. Forrest, who rolled off from third on the grid, navigated a chaotic Daytona afternoon with just two incidents on his sheet — the cleanest card of any driver inside the top five — to earn his first win in the HP Racing Cup Series and vault straight to the top of the standings with 40 points.

Pole-sitter Tommy Thompson in the #7 held his own through the late stages, leading six laps and finishing second, but an eight-incident count across the 60-lap distance will be a concern heading to the next round. Seth Lacroix in the #25 rounded out the podium after starting seventh, leading three laps and picking up four positions on the day to collect 34 points, his first podium result in the series. Cory Buchanan in the #19 slipped two spots from his front-row starting position to finish fourth, while Justin Mccurdy's #18 was fifth despite accumulating 18 incidents — a number that raises serious questions about sustainability in future rounds.

The story of the night away from the podium belonged to Brian Cowart in the #16. Starting deep in the field from 24th, Cowart carved through traffic over 60 laps and 18 caution-lap restarts to arrive at the checkered flag in sixth place — a swing of 18 positions that earned him hard charger honors. Kolin Carpenter in the #1 was similarly impressive, gaining 16 spots from 23rd to 7th, while Patrick Smith's #47 advanced eight positions from 16th to 8th. With 20 incidents on Cowart's card and 19 on Carpenter's, both drivers will need to clean things up, but the raw pace shown through the field was undeniable.

With Round 1 complete, the standings are tightly bunched at the front — Forrest's five-point cushion over Thompson and six-point lead over Lacroix in third means a single bad result could reshuffle the order entirely. Buchanan in the #19 sits just seven points back in fourth, and Mccurdy is eight points off the lead in fifth. The entire top five is separated by only eight points, setting up what promises to be a fierce fight as the HP Racing Cup Series heads to its next event.
