Round 2 of the HP Racing Cup Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway produced one of the more remarkable results the league has seen, as #89 Seth Lacroix charged from 13th on the starting grid to take the victory in a 82-lap affair that featured five cautions and six lead changes. Lacroix, running clean with zero incidents on the day, led 42 of 82 laps to claim the win — his first in the series — and simultaneously earned hard charger honors for the largest position gain in the field. Starting from pole, #19 Cory Buchanan held the lead briefly and logged a single lap out front before a disastrous race unfolded, with the polesitter ultimately finishing 18th after dropping 17 positions from where he began.

The front of the field was a contested place throughout the 82-lap distance, with six lead changes keeping the outcome in question deep into the race. #56 Stephen Phillips, who started second, showed early pace and led seven laps before fading to a 14th-place finish — a 12-position swing in the wrong direction. #00 Nolan Mcclurg, the elder of two McClurgs in the top three, was the most persistent challenger to Lacroix, leading 32 laps from his third-place starting spot and finishing second, though nine incident points on his scorecard tell the story of a race that was harder fought than the result suggests. Brother #43 Ryan Mcclurg rounded out the podium in third after starting eighth, giving the McClurg family a strong afternoon despite neither converting the win.

The hard charger story belongs entirely to Lacroix, and it deserves emphasis: starting 13th in a 21-car field with a track that spent 15 of 82 laps under caution, gaining 12 positions while also leading 42 laps and finishing incident-free is a performance that demanded notice. #7 Tommy Thompson was the other notable mover, advancing ten spots from 18th to eighth with six incidents, while #22 Tyler DeWeese quietly put together one of the cleanest runs in the field, gaining three positions from seventh to fourth with zero incidents — one of only two drivers in the entire 21-car field to finish without a mark on their record.

In the standings, Lacroix's victory vaults him into a tie at the top with #9 Alex Forrest, both sitting at 40 points after two rounds. Forrest, who finished tenth on Saturday, holds the tiebreaker edge in the current standings. Tommy Thompson sits third at 35 points, level with Nolan Mcclurg in fourth, while Ryan Mcclurg rounds out the top five at 34 points — meaning five drivers are separated by just six points through two races. The HP Racing Cup Series title fight is as compressed as it could possibly be heading forward, and Las Vegas just reminded everyone that position changes of twelve spots in a single race can reshape the entire order.
