Alex Forrest wheeled the #9 machine to victory lane at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday night, picking up his second win of the season in Round 4 of the HP Racing Cup Series. Forrest started fourth and led 23 of 145 laps in a race that saw 15 cautions consume 60 laps and three lead changes shuffle the running order repeatedly. Pole sitter Seth Lacroix in the #89 led a race-high 46 laps before fading to eighth at the finish, a result that cost him dearly in the standings. Justin Mccurdy's #18 was strong all afternoon, leading 53 laps from his third starting position, but the reigning leader of laps-led on the day had to settle for fifth at the checkered flag.

The story of the night away from the winner belonged to Jeremy Brower in the #8, who delivered a stunning run from 15th on the grid all the way to second at the finish. That 13-position charge earned Brower the hard charger award and, crucially, marked his first podium finish in the series. Teammate Garren Brower in the #2 also worked forward from 13th to 12th, but it was Jeremy's charge that turned heads. Tommy Thompson in the #7 made it two drivers climbing from deep in the field into the top three, advancing 11 spots from 14th starting to take the final podium position — his first series podium as well.

With Forrest's win and Lacroix's disappointing eighth-place result, the standings have tightened at the top in some places while widening in others. Forrest now leads the standings with 80 points, six clear of Lacroix at 74. Thompson's podium vaults the #7 team to third at 69 points, while Matthew Pponczocha sits fourth at 65 and Mccurdy rounds out the top five at 64. The six-point gap between Forrest and Lacroix is a thin margin, and with Lacroix's 46 laps led going unrewarded in the final running order, the pressure on the #89 team heading into the coming rounds is real.

Brian Kleman in the #92 had the most difficult night of anyone, falling 12 positions from his second starting spot to finish 14th while accumulating 20 incidents. Patrick Smith in the #47 and James Hauser in the #13 each finished with 20 incidents as well, with Hauser dropping seven spots from sixth starting to 13th. The lone clean driver on the night was Mccurdy in the #18, who finished fifth despite running at the front for the bulk of the afternoon — a quiet testament to discipline in one of the league's most punishing environments.
