John Crosby delivered a commanding performance at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night, steering the #73 machine to victory in Round 8 of the Godsby ARCA Series. Starting tenth, Crosby worked his way to the front over the course of 110 laps, ultimately leading 37 of them to claim his second win of the season. With 11 lead changes across the field and three cautions slowing the action for nine laps, Charlotte produced an active and contested race — but when it mattered most, Crosby had the car to beat.
Behind him, the story of the podium belonged to two drivers who made enormous charges from deep in the field. Judson Curtis, wheeling the #29, started 17th and climbed all the way to second, leading six laps along the way. For Curtis, whose prior win total in this series stands at zero, the runner-up finish was a significant result. Meanwhile, Jordan Traas in the #79 was equally impressive, starting 19th and finishing third while leading 36 laps — the second-highest total of any driver in the field. The frontrunner at times, Traas ultimately had to settle for third, which is nonetheless his third podium in series history given his two prior wins.
The night's most dramatic charge came from #5 Brandon Hinton, who earned Hard Charger honors after gaining 18 positions from his 22nd starting spot to finish fourth. Hinton's run was the most aggressive positional gain among all 26 starters, and a fourth-place result from that deep in the grid speaks for itself. Up front, pole-sitter Robert Walton in the #57 had a night to forget — after leading 12 laps from the front row, he tumbled back to 15th with 12 incidents recorded. Similarly, #02 Kyre Mullaney started second and finished tenth after accumulating eight incidents, making the front-row lockout a result that ultimately unraveled over the race's duration.
In the championship picture, Round 8 reshuffles the order in significant ways with 16 races still to run. #11 Jonathan Burt leads the standings with 299 points, but his 40-point cushion over second-place Brian Sousa is far from comfortable. Traas's podium lifts him to third at 248 points, and Crosby's victory vaults him to fourth at 245 — just three points behind Traas and 54 behind the leader. The gap from Burt to fifth-placed David Burcicki is only 61 points, meaning the entire top five remains mathematically tightly grouped heading into the back half of the season.
